Foundation Gives Free Medicare To 4,543 Patients

A total of 4, 543 persons in Mbo Local Government area of Akwa Ibom State have benefited from free rural medical services rendered by O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation.

Speaking with newsmen the Programme Coordinator of O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation, Miss Ineba Ideriah, said that the organisation was committed to reaching to the rural people.

Ideriah explained that the beneficiaries of the medical mission, who are mainly rural dwellers, were screened and treated of malaria, eye and dental problem and other ailments and  disclosed that the five day mission, which started on August 5, had performed 25 surgical operations on patients suffering hernia.

She said that the foundation had six areas of operations, which include free rural medical mission done quarterly; care for life for the elderly people above 70 years; and evangelism for spiritual uplift of people.

Others  are education and scholarship programme, micro-credit and entrepreneurship for women and provision of potable water for rural communities.

“We have observed that often times, the rural people are forgotten, that is why this foundation is focusing on rural communities,” Ideriah said.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Rose Edet, said that her one year son, who had suffered from hernia since birth, was operated successfully on Tuesday by the foundation.

Edet said that she was told that the surgery could have cost her N20,000 if the foundation did not intervene.

Another beneficiary, Mr Asuquo Oboho, who spoke through his son, Emmanuel Oboho, said that he had suffered hernia for 15 years.

Oboho thanked the foundation for coming to his aid, explaining that his previous attempt at surgery was not successful.

The villagers, who gathered at Enwang Health Centre at the headquarters of Mbo local government area, were excited about the programme.
