Currency Trafficking: Court Jails Six

Six currency traffickers have been sentenced to two weeks imprisonment each by the Elimgbu Magistrate Court for violation of Rivers State urban development laws.
The court, presided over by C.B.Okekem (Esq), also handed down the same punishment to one Igboji Alphonsus and Ugo Clement for malicious damage of government’s property.
The six currency traffickers include Dauda Musa, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, Mohammed Nuhu, Azumi Umaru, Salisu Mohammed and Ustaz Abduramam.
They were arraigned before the court for destroying the wire mesh fence constructed by the  Rivers State Government under its urban beautification scheme as well as assault on officials of the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning’s task force on routine inspection and enforcement.
The convicts, who were jailed with option of fine were also accused of attempting to smash the patrol vehicles of the taskforce but were repelled by law enforcement officers attached to the patrol team.
The Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning , Dr Tammy Danangogo, while reacting to the judgement in an interview, yesterday restated the determination of the government to rid the society of lawlessness, noting that the ministry would not be intimidated by anyone in the execution of  its functions.
The commissioner also said that the ministry remained undeterred by the antics of those whose activities represented a threat to urban sanity in the state, and promised to prosecute its assignment without fear or favour.
