Commissioner Advocates Early e-Education

The Rivers State Commissioner for Youth Development, Sir Owene Wonodi, has advocated for the early exposure of students to e-education system as the state is gearing towards computer literacy.

The Commissioner who spoke as the chairman of occasion at the opening ceremony of the 2013 ICT Farm at the ICT centre in Port Harcourt Wednesday, said there is urgent need for all to be computer literate.

Wonodi noted that sine the world is now a global village, it was expedient for the children to be properly equipped with the latest ICT development in the world.

According to him, most transactions will soon be done electronically, thereby, making it difficult for those who are not yet computer literate.

He also informed that the ICT summer class, will among other things, enable the students to be better engaged and avoid some characters that are inimical to their lives.

While lauding the state governor over the ICT initiatives, he called on the 2013 ICT students to make best use of the opportunity, as it is targeted at making them world class standard.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to Governor Amaechi on ICT, Engr Goodliffe Nmekini, recounted how each ICT summer class has become a pleasurable moment between the children and himself.

He told the crowd that, it was also the governor’s plans to make every sector of the economy ICT compliant.

Nmekini, further revealed his organisation’s ICT certification is of international ranking, adding that all its examinations are set in the United Kingdom.

“We come to this dream in our bid to prepare the children for the future. We are moving into the era of computer examinations, which only needs one’s fingers to do”, he said.

Earlier, he had advised the students to pay more attention to their studies, adding that the basic thing was the knowledge acquired during the training and not the prizes won.

The occasion was declared open by the Secretary to the State Government Mr George Feyii who was represented by the Commissioner for Employment Generation, Dr. Ipalibo Harry.

A total of four hundred students made the list of the 2013 ICT Farm.
