Commission Tasks Admin Officers On Performance
The Rivers State Local Government Service Commission has charged Administrative Officers of the 23 Local Government Areas to brace up for the challenges of improving services at the grassroots.
The Chairman of the Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini said this on Monday in Port Harcourt, while declaring opened a two-week refresher course for administrative officers of the Unified Local Government Service in the State.
Chief Nmerukini who was represented by the Secretary of the commission, Sir Gabriel Adonye Jumbo also warned against indiscipline and other acts that are inimical to the service.
He said that the commission attaches greater importance to staff performances, a situation that has made it to spend millions of naira in training and retraining of its staff.
According to him, the only way of reciprocating this gesture was for them to take the training seriously and expressed optimism that the workshop will bring out the best from them.
Also speaking, the Director, Training and Management services, establishments training and Pension Bureau Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Chinda Wali said that the programme is not meant to witchhunt any body, stressing that it was aimed at improving their contributions to the overall success of the local government system.
Mr. Wali described Administrative Officers as the most important officers of government as they formulate and implement policies, noting that the programme is to equip them in the discharge of their duties.
Also speaking, the Director of Administration, Establishments Training and Pension Burearu, Mr. Nnamdi Okpu decried poor attendance at the workshop, warning that appropriate punishment will be meted out to those who absent themselves from the workshop.
