CNPP, Others Hail RVHA Take Over
The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) has welcomed the National Assembly takeover of the function of the Rivers State House of Assembly insisting that there are no extraneous implications of the action as being speculated by some segments of the political class.
The Rivers State chairman of the CNPP, Deacon Princewill Enyi, who stated this in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt, yesterday also hinted that the National Assembly as a body would carry out the functions of the House pending the return of normalcy.
Enyi, who is also the chairman of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) noted that the National Assembly’s action was in consonance with constitutional provisions and in the national interest of maintaining peace and order in the state Assembly.
In a similar view, a one time Commissioner for Works in Rivers State, Engr Sampson Ngerebara said the decision taken by the Senate was the only option left to reduce tension in the Assembly.
On their part, the former Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon Davies Ibiamu Ikanya and the leader of Akuku-Toru legislative Assembly, Mr Akunnah Dokubo hailed the National Assembly intervention in the crisis.
Also speaking, a former lawmaker and Special Adviser to Rivers State Governor on primary education, Hon Sam Sam Etetegwung said, “ some how, they (National Assembly) are perfectly right, if only they would not exceed their mandate in restoring normalcy in the Rivers State House of Assembly and the entire state.
A Port Harcourt Based human rights activists and political analyst, Dr Emmanuel Ezeli said the National Assembly should critically appraise the issues arising from the crisis without fear or favour.
