Chime Resolves To Promote Igbo Culture

The Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Sullivan Chime has expressed the resolve of his administration to continue to encourage the promotion of the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo race and Nigeria in general.
Chime said this while presenting a star prize of Hyundai Elentra saloon car and N500,000 .00 to Miss Chinenye Ugada, the winner of the 2012 Nwa-Ada Igbo beauty pageant at the Government House, Enugu.
Also at the ceremony, the Governor presented a Hyundai car and N250,000.00 to Miss Onyinye Okoye and Home Theater LD Television and N100,000.00 to Miss Ijeoma Nnanna as first and second runners-up at the beauty pageant competition.
The Governor also congratulated the Nwa-Ada Igbo Queen, Miss Ugada and her runners up on their victory and charged them to be good ambassadors of Ndi-Igbo in whatever they do.
He reminded them that their position as Nwa-Ada Igbo carries a lot of responsibility and urged them to protect the dignity of womanhood and promote the culture of the Igbo race.
The State Chief Executive praised the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ozo Joe Mamelu for his initiative and efforts to package the cultural troupe, adding that from their performances, they will go places.
Earlier in his speech, Commissioner Ozo Mamelu thanked the Governor for the support the ministry received from him which made the Nwa Ada Igbo beauty pageant contest and re-branding exercise a huge success.
The commissioner explained that over one hundred ladies took part in the beauty pageant contest out of which three emerged the queen and two runner-ups, adding that the competition was transparent as the judges were picked at the venue of the competition.
He said that this year’s (2013) beauty contest will feature Nwa-Ada Igbo beauty pageant and Traditional wrestling contest to produce Oka Mgba.
The commissioner stated that the re-branded cultural troupe included costume and newly introduced dance steps among others, adding that they newly recruited dancers among the troupe had been offered employment by the state government.
The Nwa Ada Igbo Queen, Miss Ugada in a brief remark, thanked the Governor for the car and cash reward and promised to protect the crown to justify the honour.
Miss Ugada said that her pet project will include the teaching of traditional way of cooking to our young girls in a programme she called Traditional Vintage Cuisine
