The Secretary to the
Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator Ayim Pius Ayim, and the President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote have stressed the need for the country to provide an alternative to oil revenue if its leaders want a bright Future for the citizens.
The duo made this suggestion during the ninth edition of Editors conference titled ‘Nigeria Beyond Oil: The Role of the Editor.” Last  Thursday in Asaba, Delta State.
Ayim and Dangote who spoke in agreement with Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and the minister for International and communication Mr Labaran Maku said their arguments were based on the current happenings in the oil market.
They maintained that since oil discovery was on the increase in most African countries and other parts of the world, it will be better for Nigeria to seek an alternative to oil revenue before the situation deteriorates.
The speakers who spoke on their separate capacities, hinted that countries like the United State and parts of Europe are already on the alternative oil mission so as to still provide for their citizens should the oil industry collapse.
Dangote, represented by his group’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr Joseph Makojo, noted that the country’s oil was now on the dwindie at the us market which  according to him, was the country’s major oil buyer.
He further disclosed that by 2020, the USA will be importing shale oil, the alternative product which it had discovered, thereby, having little or no need for Nigeria’s crude oil.
They maintained that the government must chart a new route for a nation beyond oil as its major revenue source.
It could be recalled that experts in the oil industry have repeatedly warned that the oil wells would one day go dry due to the high level of operation in that sector.
Earlier, the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Mr Femi Adesina, had stressed the need for Nigerian to go beyond oil, adding “we perish, diversify or die.”
