Away Points Embolden Sharks, Boost Relegation Fight
Recent good results achieved by Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt have suddenly given the club shots in the arm and boosted their confidence as they seek to escape relegation threats.
Last weekend, the Blue Angels, as Sharks are fondly called , were forced to a goalless draw by Kwara United in Ilorin in one of the week 23 of the Globacom Premier League.
The draw marked the third away draws by Sharks this season and an indication that their race against relegation is on the right track.
The club had been forced to draws by Wikki Tourists in Bauchi, ABS FC in Illorin by Kwara United.
Speaking with Tidesports in an interview yesterday, Chief Coach of Sharks FC, Dabo-Ere Dokubo said that the match against Kwara United last weekend was one they would have won but for the first Assistant referee who unjustly denied them an 89th goal that would have given them a 2-1 victory.
But he said that the away point and especially the teams recent impressive run have improved their position on the league’s log and boosted the morale of the players.
He believes that the recent developments would spur the team to work harder, go the extra mile and fight relentlessly to ensure that the club maintains its Premier League status at the end of the season.
According to him, the in-house crisis that engulfed the club at the beginning of the season forced them to kick off the season on the backfoot.
However, the week-nine transfer window that saw the drafting of 15 new players has been the beginning of good stories for the club.
Coach Dokubo said that the club after blending the old and new players now boasts vibrant players, from defence midfield to attack, who are ready to work.
He fingered Christian Pyagbara as one of the players, though yet to score a goal, that has worked his socks off for the team.
“We have blended, gotten our rhythm and forging ahead in the season, Sharks FC, by the grace of God will end the season on a high,” stated the coach
