A member of the National Assembly, Senator Wilson Asinobi Ake has cautioned the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike not to allow his political ambition to destabilise Rivers State.
Sen Ake who represents Rivers West Senatorial District, stated this yesterday in a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt , even as he regretted that the political ambition of Chief Wike has caused tension and crisis in the state.
The Lawmaker noted that even though the junior minister has the civic right to contest for any political position in the state and country such should not be allowed to cause tension and destabilise the peace of Rivers State.
He said it was wrong and shocking for a prominent citizen of the state to make comments that he will make the state uncomfortable, advising him to retreat from such dangerous moves.
He further noted that zoning formula was an understanding but that if the minister wishes to go against it, history will remind him in future
He said: “I am not against anybody showing interest in any position in whatever form. There is no law against it. We only have moral and political understanding by allowing people to restrict their interest.
‘“The issue is that if you are showing any interest, if you want to be Governor, you shouldn’t cause problem. You shouldn’t make ordinary citizens who are not politicians to suffer,” Senator Ake said.
He further said that Wike’s threat to make people sleep with their eyes open is condemnable, pointing out that he was a direct beneficiary of zoning.
The lawmaker said although peace talks were on-going, for  meaningful peace to take place, the state Police Commissioner, Mbu Joseph Mbu must give way, adding that for him (Mbu) to publicly condemn the Governor was enough  reason to redeploy him.
Ake, who is the chairman, Senate Committee on Labour and Employment, however said that the National Assembly was on recess, adding that when the national legislature résumés sitting, it would take a position on the matter.
