Abolga All Stars Seek Partnership With RSG

The Abua/Odual Local Government Chapter of the All Stars Football Cub, organisers of Abolga unity cup has called for partnership with the Rivers State government towards, developing talents at the grassroots.

The president of the All Stars, Abua/Odual chapter, Deacon Igbanibo D. Solomon, who made the plea during the opening ceremony of the 4

th Edtion of the Abua/Odual (Abolga) unity cup at the weekend at the Abua Central Football field said the body was faced with challenges of fund and ready to go into partnership to discover talents and develop grassroots sports.

Deacon Solomon noted that the aim of the competition is to foster unity among the people through football.

According to him, the idea of the tournament is to bring the youth together, harness their talent and recommend the good ones to coaches and clubs in the state.

“When players are discovered, we try to hook them up with coaches in the state, first and seek ways of making them International  Stars in future”, he said.

He warned players that the competition is not a do or die affair stating that there were reasons why it was restricted to Abua/Odual indigenes alone.

The All Stars president commended the players and the spectators for their conduct and urged them to continue in that manner.

He also expressed satisfaction with the level of play and high level of discipline exhibited by players and fans of the two teams,  Home Boys and Okana Stars.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Sports, Hon Fred Igwe  commended the organisers of the competition for the high level of preparation and commitment to developing grassroots sports in the State.

Igwe, who was represented by a Director in the Ministry, Chief Edwin  Amadi promised to write his report on the request of the organisers for partnership.

The opening match between the defending champion, Home Boys and Okana Football Club ended 0-1 in favour of Okana FC.

The only goal of the match was scored on the 19

th minute of play by Jonathan Oduomologh.
