Abia To Actualise Education For All By 2020
The Abia State Government has reiterated its determination to partner with relevant stakeholders in the education sector to ensure the attainment of education for all by 2020.
The Permanent Secretary,?Abia?Ministry of Education, Mrs Victoria?Chigbu,?said this at a training workshop for adult education instructors in Umuahia on Tuesday.
Represented by Mrs Ngozi Nwagbara, the Director of Curriculum in the ministry, Chigbu stressed the need for Nigeria to make efforts to exit itself from “the group of educationally- backward nations’’.
According to her, adult education is paramount to achieving the nation’s goal of education for all in the next seven years.
She said the nine countries that made up the group were harbouring 70 per cent of the world’s illiterate adults.
The permanent secretary said the country with its abundant human resources had the capacity to achieve any set goal in the education sector.
Earlier, Mr?Joseph Anyanwu, the Executive Director,?Abia?State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, said that the workshop would train?120 facilitators in the state.
Anyanwu noted that the workshop, organised?by UNESCO in collaboration with National Mass Education Commission (NMEC), would increase the level of literacy in the state.
