Abe Urges Peace In Rivers
The chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Down stream), Senator Magnus Ngei Abe has sued for peace in the interest of the people of Rivers State.
Abe who represents Rivers South East Senatorial district in the National Assembly expressed the need to create a conducive atmosphere that would enhance governance in Rivers State.
The lawmaker who spoke at Eleme during a stakeholder meeting noted that everybody has a role to play in making the government work, adding that it would not be in anybody’s interest to do the contrary.
He cautioned the minister of state for Education, Chief Nyeson Wike against making the state uncomfortable as that would do no one anygood.
According to him, “The way forward is for all to embrace Peace in the interest of the state. We need to allow the Governor govern and create an atmosphere that would allow the state government function as a government.
“The reason we are in polities he further stated is because of the citizens and no matter how angry or bitter and upset we are, we must make out time to think of what our actions will cause to ordinary people who depend on us as their leaders”.
Abe however said the political crisis in Rivers State has brought distraction the state government, in adding that the National Assembly is working on how to restore normalcy so that the state government can do what has been doing for Rivers People.
The lawmaker said to begin to create challenges for the state government would make it difficult for the government to function as expected.
“When you bring militants to the streets to be harassing people, it will make government not to function. When we fight in the Assembly, It will make the government not to function, when you create a situation of insecurity the government cannot function,” he said.
