Two Docked Over Robbery, Firearms Possession

A twenty-to- year-old
man, Shedrack Antony and Abraham Gift have been arraigned before a Port Harcourt Chief  Magistrate Court for alleged possession of fire arms and armed robbery.
The accused persons are standing trial on two court charge of illegal  possession of fire arms and robbery before Chief  Magistrate F.N. Amanze, on charge number PMC/1408/2013.
The police prosecution told the court that the  accused persons and others now at large on the 25th of June, 2013 at No. 2 Bernard Carr Street, Port Harcourt, in the Port Harcourt magisterial district conspired  among themselves to commit felony to wit: unlawful possession of fire arms.
The prosecution further told the court that the accused and others at large on the same date and place within the  named  magisterial  district did have in their possession locally carved  toy gun with the pretence  that it was a gun which  they used for robbery adding that the accused persons committed an offence punishable under section 516 (a) of the criminal code 37 vol II laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999  and section 3 of the robbery and fire arms (Special Provision) Act Cap I laws of Federation 1999.
The accused persons were not  allowed to take their plea on the charges against them.
The presiding Chief Magistrate  F.N. Amanze ordered that the accused  persons  be remanded in prison  custody  while the case file be forwarded to the office of the Director of public prosecution for legal advice. The case was later adjourned to the 16th September, 2013 for hearing pending the  outcome of the DPP’s advice.
