Three RSSDA Students Make First Class In UK
Three students sponsored by the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) have graduated with First Class degrees in different fields of study from very prestigious universities in the United Kingdom.
The three are among the eleven Rivers students sponsored by the RSSDA, and also joined the litany fresh graduates from across the world, who have successfully completed their academic sojourn in the various universities in the United Kingdom this summer.
Among the fresh graduates are four physically challenged, including Daniel Nlemogu, who bagged a First Class in Law while Betty A. Odema received the Vice Chancellor’s Award.
In the University of Salford, Obe Olube and Ideozu Echikwe made First Class in Biomedical Sciences, just as four others graduated from the University of Liverpool in flying colours.
In a speech at the event, Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Mr. Joe Poroma described the success recorded by the students as a great honour to the people and government of Rivers State who gave them a platform to live their dreams.
“You have demonstrated that the Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, through RSSDA, did not make a mistake by offering you a scholarship to study abroad,” he said.
Earlier, Executive Director of RSSDA, Mr. Noble Pepple, said that the performance of the physically challenged graduands is an inspiration to everyone and a source of pride to the agency.
“These physically challenged young men and women have beaten their disabilities to emerge tops and become the best among their equals.’’
Chairman of the RSSDA, Rev. Canon Precious Omuku, said he was proud that the dreams of Governor Chibuike Amaechi have been put to fruition.
According to him, “I am glad that the children can be a beacon for other people, whether disabled or not, to look up and say, we can make it if we apply ourselves.”
The First Class Law graduate, Daniel Nlemogu, said he and his colleagues could not have asked for more.
“We will forever remain grateful to the Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi and RSSDA for this wonderful opportunity of a life time,” he said.
