Synod Charges NUJ To Engender Public Confidence
The 2nd Session of the 15th Synod of the Diocese of Enugu (Anglican Communion), held at ST. Bartholomew’s Church, Asata, Enugu, has ended in Enugu with a call on the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC), to be bold and proactive in its investigations and decisions in order to engender public confidence in the judiciary.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the 5-day programme last Sunday, the synod also urged the NJC to accede to the request for the appointment of more judges in Enugu state in particular and the country in general, in order ensure quick dispensation of justice.
The communiqué which was jointly signed by the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Olisa Chukwuma, Synod Secretary, Ven.A.N.C. Orah and the Deputy Registrar, HB.C Ogboko Esq. respectively, however commended the chief judge of the federation in her crusade to rid the Nigerian judiciary of corrupt judicial officers.
The Synod expressed concern over the revelation recently made by the Director –General of Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), Mr. Joseph Odumodu, that 80 per cent of products imported into the country were fake and substandard goods, urging the federal government to intensify efforts in curbing this malaise.
The synod also urged the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) to be alive to its statutory responsibilities and form a complimentary synergy with Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) for purposes of ridding Nigerian Markets of substandard and fake products”.
