Rivers State’s Premier League teams, Sharks and Dophins Football Clubs yesterday recorded impressive results as the 2013 Glo Premier League season resumes from temporary break.
In Port Harcourt, Sharks FC secured all available points in their clash with Kaduna United, courtesy of a 2-1 victory at the Sharks Stadium, while Dolphins were forced to share points with Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC, in Ibadan after a barren draw result.
Overall, it was a positive development for the clubs as they seek to improve their lot in the league.
For Sharks, it was the right shot in the arm in their effort to rescue their season and escape the relegation waters.
The Blue Angels kicked off to a perfect start against Kaduna United, opening scoring as early as the fight minute when Isaac Lute beat the visitors’ goalkeeper.
However, the expectation of a goal harvest was doused in the first half as Kaduna United drew level. Every effort to decide the match earlier proved abortive with both sides cancelling each other out.
As fears of another dropped points began to put home fans on edge, Tayo Fabiyi grabbed the winner for Sharks less than 10 minutes to full time to secure maximum points.
Reacting to the victory, media officer of Sharks FC, Peter Abaje said that the victory would serve to further motivate the team in its efforts to swim to safety on the League Table.
According to Abaje, Sharks’ target is to win all remaining home matches and try to get some valuable points on the road to ensure survival in the elite league.
