Sharks Coach Targets Away Victory Points
Sharks Technical Adviser Gbenga Ogunbote is targeting away points as the club seeks to move off the basement as the second round of the Premier League resumed on Wednesday.
Sharks were bolted to the bottom of the League table with 20 points from the first round of nineteen games, and the former Sunshine coach is aware of what needs to be done to avoid relegation, especially, after adding their haul courtesy of their three more points to lone gaol victory over Nembe city on Wednesday.
“The target is to finish the season well, not just escape relegation. We want to finish in an appreciable position.
“For us to get it right, we must do everything humanly possible and work hard. The first thing is to win all our matches at home, and then we would be looking at picking up careless points on the road.”
Ogunbote is under no illusions as to the enormity of that task.
“It’s so difficult to psyche a team at the bottom of the table but with what we have been doing and with the recent results both home and away, the confidence is coming back that we can still do it.
“It’s just unfortunate we are where we are, and so, where we get those points doesn’t matter, we need to get it, and am sure that with a level playing ground we will get points anywhere.”
In the first round of the campaign, Sharks gleaned just two points on the road, a 1-1 draw with Wikki Tourist in Bauchi and a 0-0 draw with ABS in Illorin.
Away form aside, Sharks will need to show strength at home and win all remaining home matches in the second round of the season.
