RSG Assures On New Model Schools,Sept
Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Nemi has assured that more of the new model primary schools will be put to use as promised by Governor Chibuike Amaechi by September this year.
Speaking to newsmen after conducting inspection of schools in the township area of Port Harcourt on Friday, Dame Nemi disclosed that most of the schools have been completed, while furnishing is on going.
She said, “ the contractors are doing well and the schools are ready with furnishing going on and landscaping has been completed’’.
With the current pace of work, she assured that many of the schools will be ready for occupation by September, as she expressed satisfaction with the level of work done so far.
Dame Alice Nemi had last month during a similar visit to State School Sangana in Diobu disclosed that following the rising student enrolment in government schools, Governor Amaechi has directed the building of 30 classroom new model primary schools.
In her words, “ a decision was reached few months ago that with the population in some parts of Rivers State, not only in Port Harcourt, that 14 classroom blocks were just too small to accommodate, the pupils that was why it was re-designed to 30 classroom blocks.
She equally pointed out that before the re-opening of schools in September this year, the one storey building of 30 classrooms will be ready for use by the pupils.
Already, about 350 of the new model primary schools out of the 750 planned, are under various levels of completion, while 250 are currently in use.
According to her, Governor Amaechi has also promised to unveil four of the new Model Secondary Schools at Etche, Omuma, Emohua and Tai by September, but the education commissioner noted that latest December the schools will be ready to admit new students.
