Rivers Children Blast Wike Over Ulterances
Children under the aegis of Rivers Teenage parliament have lambasted the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, for inciting his supporters to fight his perceived political opponents.
The children, drawn from different parts of Rivers State, made the condemnation mid-week when they paid a visit to the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Leyii Kwanee in Port Harcourt.
Presenting an address during the visit, the spokesperson of the children, Miss. Soblachi Amadi, said the minister’s “unguided utterances” are capable of plunging the state into war in which children and women will ultimately be affected.
“The most of victims of fight and war are we, children, and our mummies, aunties, nieces and sisters”, she said, calling on the Minister to consider them (children) before thinking of inciting people to a fight that is likely to result in war.
She stated that being the Minister of State for Education, their education, and hence development falls under his purview, questioning what he thinks they, as children, will learn from his call to fight in the State. She also called on President Goodluck Jonathan to call the Minister to order.
Miss Amadi thanked wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan for suing for peace as a means of ending the political crisis in the State.
“We thank our mother of the nation, wife of the president for suing for peace in the State for the sake of children and women. We love Rivers State and Nigeria. God bless Nigeria”, she said.
Responding, the Deputy Speaker assured that Governor Chibuike Amaechi will do everything within the law to ensure the protection of lives of citizens, especially children and mothers.
It will be recalled that the prolonged internal crisis of the State Chapter of the ruling People’s Democratic party (PDP) penultimate week climaxed in fisticuffs and clubbing, which resulted in various degrees of injuries to some members of the House.
