As the federal government intensifies its military campaign against Boko Haram insurgency in the three North-East states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, a member  of the House of Representatives has advised the federal government to beam its searchlight on the ‘brains’ and sponsors behind the dreaded Islamic sect if the battle against terror is to be won.
The member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yusuf Bala Ikara, representing Ikara/Kubau Federal Constituency of Kaduna State also underscores the importance of periodic meetings between the presidency and governors of the affected states while the state of emergency lasts, as a way of fishing out those that are really behind the menace and providing lasting solution.
Hon. Ikara, who spoke with The Tide in Abuja said, “—Boko Haram: there must be professionals who are responsible for this insurgency. So government needs to investigate further and fish them out. Government needs to do something urgently about it. That’s my concern”.
“Invite the governors of the affected states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, and even Kaduna and Plateau for interrogation – and dialogue with them from time to time to get to the root of the problems, uprisings and violence in their states”, he said.
Hon. Ikara applauded the federal government for the steps taken so far to contain the Boko Haram insurgency and restore peace to the affected states, stressing that before now, the opposition believe the government was not capable of handling it.
He viewed the declaration of the state of emergency as a ‘bold and courageous’ move and advised President Jonathan to be courageous always, honest and transparent, without being bias, as a leader, reminding him that the day he took the oath of office, as a Christian, he swore with the Bible, pledging to Nigerians that he would render his services without fear or favour, adding, ‘that’s the content of the oath of office’ which is binding on him.
Beyond this, Hon. Ikara said, there was the overbearing need for God’s intervention in the affairs of the nation, saying “if God does not intervene, we’ll be decaying as a nation”.
Ikara advised youths to join hands with government in ensuring enduring peace and security in the country and change their focus from militancy, knowing that they are the future leaders of the country, adding that they should be patient and not easily agitated, respectful and patriotic and ensure that their loyalty is to their country first.
“I am also a youth, 36 years of age; if I have followed them, perhaps I shouldn’t have been where I am today so they should follow my good example and be peaceful and law-abiding citizens”, he admonished.
