Port Manager Cleas Cargo Status At Onne

The Port Manager, Onne Port, Mr Munir Umar has declared that there is no under declaration of cargo in the port as perceived in some quarters.
Mr Umar dropped this hint during a media chat in his office at Onne recently.
According to him, such acts were not possible in the port because of the various machineries put in place by the management of the port.
He said machineries like the agents, cargo surveyors and tally clerks who collect manifest during the process makes it extremely difficult for under declaration.
Mr Umar hinted that Onne Port is operating at over 80 per cent capacity and has overshot its revenue target within six months, as a result of excellent and impressive infrastructural development on ground by the management and Intels, a major concessionaire in the Port, capable to handle any volume of cargo.
The Port Manager announced that the contract for the development of phase 4b terminal has been approved even as the phase 4, which was approved earlier has attained above 80 per cent completion.
He said Onne Port is different from its counterpart because of its status as an oil and gas trade zone, conceived and operated as a land lord Port from inception, which according to him made concessioning easier and a gain to the government.
On his target, The Port Manager, Onne Port said revenue generation is paramount to him, and pledged that to ensure that the corporate social responsibility is carried out by the organization and companies.
He stressed that the host communities are peaceful contrary to his impression before assumption of duty, and promised to sustain the cordial relationship.
Mr Umar however disclosed some of his major challenges which include dredging of the river and removal of wrecks on the waterways, which he said is being handled by the corporate headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Port Manager, Mr Umar has solicited the support of host communities of Eleme and Ogu/Bolo Local Government Areas for Port business to continue to flourish.
Speaking when the paid a courtesy call on the chairman of Eleme Local Government Council, Hon. Oji Ngofa in his office in Eleme.
Mr Umar expressed satisfaction with the existing peace in the area, which accordance to him was contrary to the impression he had before his assumption of duty in Onne.
He said that he would ensure that companies operating in the Port comply with the corporate social responsibilities, which he regretted had not been dually complied with, assuring that the Joint Free Zone Committee Relations Committee will execute projects that would impact positively on the communities.
In his response, Hon Ngofa expressed regret over the negligence of the companies within the Oil and Gas Free   zone in carrying out their social responsibility, hoping that with the understanding of the Port Manager, there would be improvement and mutual relationship.
