Police Arrest 40 Suspects, Recover 22 Guns In July
The police arrested 40 suspects and recovered 22 assorted guns across the country in the second week of July, the Police Crime Report, has said in Abuja, yesterday.
The report stated that the arrests and recoveries were made in Lagos, FCT, Kaduna, Osun, Cross River, Ogun, Taraba, Rivers, Kogi, Anambra, Kano, Ekiti, Edo and Enugu.
It stated that the suspects were arrested in connection with armed robbery, kidnapping, and car snatching.
It said that the recovered guns, included; three pump actions, 11 locally-made pistols, two revolver pistols, one riffle and double barrel.
The report said two of the pump action guns were recovered in Lagos and one in FCT.
It said seven suspects were arrested in Kaduna, six in Cross River, five each in Lagos, FCT, Osun and Ekiti, three each in Kogi and Anambra and four in Rivers.
The report said the police in Lagos also rescued a British national, kidnapped in the state after tracking down the suspected kidnapper.
It also said that the FCT command recovered N150, 000 from a suspected bank thief at Area 3, Garki, Abuja.
“A male walked out of a commercial bank at Area 3, Abuja, with a polythene bag containing N150, 000 that he withdrew.
“Suddenly, an unknown male, grabbed the bag containing the money from him and jumped onto a waiting unregistered motorcycle and sped off.
“The victim’s shout attracted a police outdoor rider attached to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, who gave the hoodlum a hot chase,’’ it said.
The report added that the thief abandoned the motorcycle and threw the money to the ground at Area 8.
It also said that the police in Kano discovered and disconnected an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted close to the Joint Task Force (JTF) “nipping point’’ in the state.
