Obi Donates 250 Vehicles To Vigilantes
Governor Peter Obi of
Anambra State has distributed 250 security patrol vehicles to vigilante groups in177 communities and major markets in the state.
Presenting the vehicles assembled by Innoson Company, a local assembly plant in Nnewi, Obi said the gesture was aimed at intensifying security in the state.
He warned that the vehicles must not be used to provide escort to politicians and other non-security-related activities.
The governor also presented cheques worth more than N250 million for the payment of salaries to 10 vigilante personnel and for fueling of the vehicles for a year.
The Tide correspondent reports that Obi’s administration had earlier purchased more than 300 vehicles for security agencies in the state.
The Chairman of Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe, who spoke at the occasion, commended Obi for his concern for security.
Achebe also commended his development of all sectors of the state, describing the effort as “unprecedented”.
A member of Anambra House of Assembly, Mrs Nikky Ugochukwu, said that members of the House were pleased with the development in the state.
