L-R:Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State; former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar; Former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida; Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State; Gov. Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, during the governors meeting on political issues, with the two former leaders in Minna, last Monday .

In what may be his most damning statement on the platform that brought him into power, Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako has said that it would not be long before the ruling Peoples Democratic Party,(PDP), is pronounced dead.
Nyako, in an interview with BBC Hausa Service afternoon programme (Shirin Rana),yesterday said some of the party’s stakeholders were only hanging in the party because of the political positions they are presently occupying.
“People are saying that the PDP is dead or about to die but a concerned person like me will remain in the party till it dies and give it a befitting burial. “If PDP will die, let it die in our hands so that we will give it a befitting burial and mourn her”, he said.
“The party is currently going through its worst times as a result of the highhandedness and anarchy with which the leadership of the party at the National level is addressing issues”, he said.
Continuing, Nyako alleged that, “The problem of the party lies with those stalwarts in Abuja that have succeeded in putting the party in a state of coma, and it is our fervent hope that they will be prevailed upon to do the right thing so that the party can be cured of its ailment.”
The governor said his faction of the party exco in the state still remains the legitimate faction despite the grandstanding of the national chairman, while Umar Kugama remains the legitimate chairman of the party in the state.
According to him, it was due to the degeneration of things in the party that some of the concerned governors started meeting with some powerful stakeholders in the party.
This, he disclosed prompted their visit to Abeokuta on Saturday to meet with former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.
“You should understand that our visit to former President, Olusegun Obasanjo was not in our capacity as PDP members but out of our concern to provide panacea to the ailment currently bedevilling the party. That is why we are making moves to involve elder statesmen in our consultations.”
He said the high-level meeting between the four governors who met the former president was fruitful, although he did not disclose the resolution they arrived at during the closed-door meeting with the former president.
He also confirmed that the meeting his colleagues had with two former Heads of State, Ibrahim Babangida and Abudusalami Abubakar, bothered on the ruling party.
The Governor said he could not personally attend the meeting due to the fact the that he had to receive Camerounian officials on a visit to the state in connection with the Lagdo Dam issue.
Meanwhile, Youth under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum and Northern Youth Congress, have asked the Presidency and the Inspector General of Police, to tender a public apology over the attack on four northern governors, by political thugs opposed to the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi.
Hundreds of youth had last week hurled stones at Governors Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano and Murtala Nyako of Adamawa, at the airport in Port Harcourt.
Some vehicles were damaged in the process, as the placard-bearing crowd asked the visitors to leave the state.
Reacting on Monday, youth in the northern region demanded an urgent sack of the Rivers Police Commissioner for refusing to quell the assault on the governors. They also want the Presidency to apologize for its silence over the condemnable act.
While regretting the incident, the coalition said such was capable of triggering a North-South conflict if not well handled.
In his remark, National President of the Arewa Youth Forum, Alhaji Gambo Gujungu, described the attack as the handiwork of Rivers politicians, who are bent at playing on the intelligence of the people.
He said that northern youth would not condone any further attack on leaders of the zone.
