Nursing Mothers Tasked On Immunisation
The Executive Director
of Canaan Peace Women and Community Development Initiative (CAPWOCODI), Ambassador (Mrs) Christie Iwezor, has urged nursing mothers in the state to give more attention to the immunisation of their children and wards.
Speaking at a one-day sensitisation programme organised by the group in Aleto Eleme local government area, Mrs Iwezor also advised them to always refer cases of tuberculosis to the health centres.
She listed some symptoms of tuberculosis to include incessant coughing, high fever, excess sweating at night, physical depreciation as well as cough mixed with blood, urging them to always report to health personnel whenever they found themselves in such conditions.
She stated that tuberculosis accelerates HIV and warned on the need for people to keep fit, eat a lot of fruits and always cover their mouth while coughing and urged breast feeding mothers to immunize their babies.
She disclosed that tuberculosis can be cured within 6-8 months with adequate treatment adding that treatment is free.
Also speaking, the Focal person on Rapid Dialogue Testing, for malaria (RDT), in Eleme local government area, Mr Anele Francis, said that malaria is still prevalent adding that the only way to prevent it is to keep the surroundings clean, use mosquito nets and also visit the health centres.
Also, the Local Manager for Local Action for AIDS, Mr Togi Richard, said that discrimination against people living with HIV is a fast killer, and advised people to show love to affected persons.
The paramount ruler of Aleto, HRH Dr Phillip Osaro Obele (JP), urged the government to consider the establishment of more health institutions in the area. The traditional ruler who was represented at the occasion also called for other infrastructures in the area.
