NFF House: Amaechi Enters Record Books …As Jonathan Lauds Gov

Rivers state Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi has made history following the completion and inauguration of the Nigeria Football House, the permanent Secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The governor, as the Chairman Presidential Task Force, PTF on the Nigeria’s qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and other members of the task force, facilitated the building of the Secretariat, the first of its kind since the inception of NFF in 1945.Apart from the NFF House, the PTF had ensured that the Super Eagles qualified for the 2010 World Cup, even when it seemed as if the ticket would have slipped away.
The role of the governor was further acknowledged as President Goodluck Jonathan showered praises on Amaechi and his members for their vision, foresight and successful completion of the Nigeria Football House during its inauguration of the House at the weekend.
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, represented by Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, gave the commendation at the weekend during the commissioning of the edifice, the Sunday Dankaro House, located on Package B, FIFA Goal Project, Abuja. Governor Amaechi was represented at the event by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru.
“This project marks a significant milestone in sports development in our country. I commend the Chairman (Governor Amaechi) and members of the Presidential Taskforce for conceiving this project and pursuing it to a conclusion,” the President stated, expressing the hope that “this project will serve as a catalyst for sports development, reiterating his administration’s commitment to reposition sports in the country, declaring that “no effort will be reserved in actualizing this”.
Earlier, the Minister of Sports, Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC) and Vice Chairman, PTF, Malam Bolaji Abdulahi, expressed delight that the project initiated and financed by the PTF which started on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 is being inaugurated, noting that it is the first time the NFF is owning a befitting secretariat, pointing out that “this is one major transformational projects delivered in sports”.
Speaking, Secretary of the PTF and former Director General, NSC, Dr Patrick Ekeji, thanked those who contributed in various ways to see the actualization of the project, observing that the edifice will warehouse all the activities of the various sports administrative bodies in the country.
Also speaking, Director General, NSC, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, noted that the occasion is landmark event in the history of sports administration in Nigeria, especially football, commending the foresight of the PTF for the decision to build an administrative headquarters for the NFF, pointing out that the project is in line with the NSC’s desire to provide a one-stop shop for sports administration in Nigeria.
