The Onibonwon of
Ibonwon in Epe, Lagos State, Oba Abiodun Adekoya, has urged the state government to subsidise farming equipment to enhance agricultural production.
Adekoya told newsmen in Lagos  recently  that farming remained the major occupation of the people.
He said that they needed government encouragement to cultivate cassava, maize, tomatoes and pepper which are the specialty of the people.
According to the traditional rulers, more than 1,000 youths in the community are into farming.
“We only use local tools for farming; we lack modern equipment to enhance production.
“People come from different communities to buy food items but there is usually a shortfall in production.
“This is due to inadequate farm tools and the non-availability of modern equipment to enhance food production.”
He urged the state government to provide equipment to farmers to boost production and promote national food security.
Adekoya said that provision of equipment would make farming to be easy for the community and would also encourage youths to be involved in agriculture.
“If government can tap and harness the agricultural potential of the community, it will fetch us huge revenue.’’
