Medicare, A Unifying Factor – Senator
Healthcare has been de
scribed as a unifying factor in any society.
Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District, George Thompson Sekibo, said this at Ogbumnabali, in Port Harcourt Local Government Area during the final lap of the Senator George Thompson Sekibo Free Medical Outreach.
Senator Sekibo, who spoke through his special Assistanct, Hon Kevin Agbaru, said, healthcare has no boundaries and bias, saying that it brings people together, irrespective of their religious, social and political affiliations.
According to him, “anyone who is sick sees the one helping him as a brother, the doctor and nurses also do not have enemies, even fellow sick man is a brother.”
He used the opportunity to thank the people of his constituency for embracing the programme, thereby affording him the chance to directly touch their lives.
He said, “I thank everyone who turned up for the programme. I wish the beneficiaries good luck and those who could not come out I pray for them to get well before the third phase, otherwise we will be happy to attend to them in the third phase.”
The programme, which spanned two months, treated 4,000 patients out of which two surgical cases successfully handled.
Head of the team of key of life foundation, partners of the Senator George Thompson Sekibo Free Medical Outreach, Samuel Dunean, said although there were challenges as it associated with mobile clinics, the turn out in all the eight local government area of the Rivers East Senatorial District, was impressive.
Duncan, however, changed the people to change tier attitude to health and cleanliness of their environment.
“People should sanitise tier environment to keep diseases like malaria and thypoid at bay, since the vector of most diseases thrive in dirty environment, they should boil their water before drinking and clean up their drains,” he added.
