Mark Canvasses Insurance Cover For Journalists
Senate President David Mark has stressed the need for journalists to be properly and adequately insured. Mark made the call in Uyo on Saturday while declaring open the 2013 edition of the annual Senate Press Corps Retreat.
The senate president noted that the terms and conditions of service for media practitioners were very harsh, noting that journalists were usually the first casualties in dangerous environments.
He urged journalists, especially those covering the legislature, to ensure that their reports were objective, balanced and aimed at boosting national unity.
“There is time to criticise but do that constructively and when something is worthy of praise, please praise it. You must desist from the notion that only bad news is worth selling.’’
He lauded the development strides of the Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, and urged other elected government officials to follow his example.
Akpabio, on his part, told journalists not to dwell only on bad news but to also promote good news as to move the nation and the Senate forward and who described the senate as the soothing balm of democracy. According to him, the Senate has contributed largely to the stability of the country through its mature intervention on national issues.
The governor stated that the developments in the state testified to the fact that government can work adding that it takes uncommon legislature to achieve uncommon transformation.
