Lack Of Infrastructure Hinders Tourism Sector
A tourism practitioner, Mr Reuben Onah has identified lack of infrastructure as a major challenge hindering the growth of the nation’s tourism sector.
Onah in an interview with newsmen said that with the availability of infrastructure such as good road networks, regular power supply, among others, the private sector would be better positioned to invest more in the tourism industry.
He stated that through such investments, the private sector would be contributing more in the area of job creation, thereby stimulating economic growth.
He said “of all the variables which control rapid economic growth, entrepreneurship is the most important and is the factor that brings about rapid economic growth in any nation,”.
According to him, unless the cost of doing business was reduced by government through the provision of infrastructure, it would be difficult for the nation’s economy to be globally competitive.
He, however, cautioned against over reliance on public ownership and provision of infrastructure, saying the private sector also had to augment governments’ efforts in that area.
