Justice Reform Team Establishes Mediation Centres In Kano
Kano State Justice Sector Reform Team on Thursday said it had established Community Mediation Centres in each of the three senatorial zones.
The Chairman of the team and Commissioner for Justice, Alhaji Maliki Umar, said this while briefing newsmen in Kano.
He said the centres, located in Kabuga, Bichi and Takai, were established to provide alternative dispute resolution mechanism with a view to de-congest the court.
“For instance, in 2012, the Kabuga Community Mediation Centre successfully mediated 228 complaints “
He said the team had also installed an x-ray machine for NDLEA at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, to help stem the tide in drug trafficking.
He said it had also established blood and finger-prints analysis laboratory for the Nigeria Police, which was the first of its kind in the north.
“The objective is to help the Police to speedily investigate criminal cases”, he said.
Umar said the team was also able to introduce the case trucking system to coordinate the administration of criminal justice by monitoring the movement and progress of criminal cases within the key institutions.
He said the state executive council had sent a bill to the House of Assembly to give legal backing to the team and its activities.
The team, which has representatives from judiciary, security agencies and other stakeholders, is being supported by the Department For International Development (DFID).
