Industrial Court Tasks IPMAN On Peace
The President of National Industrial Court, Justice Babatunde Adejumo has advised the disputing members of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to maintain peace, pending the hearing of their case.
Adejumo gave the order after he refused to grant IPMAN an order for interim injunction to restrain Chief Solomon Ogbewe from parading himself as the Chairman of the association.
Rather the Judge said the members are hereby, restrained from doing anything that could overtly or covertly lead to breakdown of law and order in their location.
“I refuse to grant the interim injunction prayed for in this application. I order that the defendant be put on notice to appear in court and prepare for the case.
He ruled that the case being assigned to his Lordship, Justice Anthonia Ubaka, to hear both the motion on notice as well as the substantive matter to its conclusion in Akure division.
The claimants, who filed a motion on July 10, are praying the court to restrain Ogbewe from parading himself as the chairman of IPMAN.
They alleged that Ogbewe was appointed as the caretaker committee chairman for the South-West region in 2011 with a view to conducting election in the association within six months.
The members also alleged that Ogbewe conducted the election and they were elected but the defendant refused to recognise them.
The claimants also alleged that the defendant threatened to destroy the property of the association if he was not allowed to remain in office.
