‘Guava, Remedy For Constipation, High Blood Pressure’
A nutritionist with
Wuse General Hospital, Hajiya Jummai Abdul, said eating guava fruits aided the treatment of constipation, high blood pressure, diarrhoea, skin care and cold.
Abdul said in an interview with journalists in Abuja that the guava fruit was rich in fibre, vitamins, protein, minerals and a small number of digestible carbohydrates.
She also said that drinking of guava juice could be used to enhance weight loss and management of other ailments.
“Guava is very helpful for those that want to lose weight without compromising the intake of protein, vitamins and fibre; it is also rich in vitamins and minerals,” she said.
Abdul said that guava fruit contained low calories, fats and also reasonable amounts of antioxidants that prevented cancers, heart diseases and aging and in addition enhanced the immune system.
She said that, “consumption of natural fruits rich in carotene helps to protect the lungs and oral cavity from infections.
“Also, regular consumption of fruits rich in Vitamin C helps the body to develop resistance against infectious agents capable of causing harmful free radicals in the body.’’
Abdul said that consumption of guava fruits helped to reduce cholesterol and the absorption of sugar in the blood, which helped to prevent diabetes.
She also said that the consumption of guava fruits could enhance fertility, as it contained a good amount of folic acid that promoted fertility.
Abdul, therefore, encouraged consumption of guava fruits to promote a healthy thyroid function because it contained copper, which aided the production of hormones in the body.
