Flooding: Commisioner Orders Contractors Back To Site
Arising from his monthly meetings with contractors handling major evacuation of drains, the Cross River State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Sandy Onor has called contractors handling major drains to return to site.
He has also urged Cross Riverians to adopt a hygienic and sanitary approach towards sustaining the environment.
Dr Onoh made the call while addressing contractors handling major drains within the Calabar metropolis.
According to him, the evacuation exercise would go a long way in enhancing free flow of sewage for run-off water as well as preventing flooding, adding that, the exercise was a step towards ensuring that the State is environmentally conscious.
The Commissioner argued that the distilling process would facilitate the clean and green nature of the State, thus he called on Cross Riverians to desist from dumping refuse indiscriminately, pointing out that, the State Government was putting in place adequate measures to sensitize the public on the importance of keeping the environment clean and healthy.
He therefore appealed to contractors handling the major drains to return to site despite Government lean resources and would ensure the payment of their monies.
Commissioner Onoh further enjoined them to look beyond money noting that the safety of residents should rather be paramount to them and promised that Government would clear the outstanding debts owed them.
