FAAN Tasks Staff On Work Attitude
The Managing Director of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Mr. George Uriesi has challenged staff of the organisation to change their work attitude in line with the reforms taking place in the aviation industry.
Mr Uriesi stated this Friday while commissioning some projects initiated and completed by the management of the Port Harcourt International Airport to improve the working environment for the airport users.
The managing Director who lauded the Regional General Manager, Mrs Ebele Okoye for her achievements within a short time in office, describing her as a resourceful person with a passion to deliver services to people.
He explained that if the workers must put in their best, the working environment must be enhanced, noting that the Port Harcourt regional general manager, had taken a bold step to bring sanity to Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa.
The managing Director blamed the poor state of the nation’s airports before now to loss of focus but expressed happiness that the reforms in the nation’s aviation sector is targeted at making the industry compete favourably with others in the world.
According to him, “as part of repositioning the industry, workers are being motivated to generate high inputs by purchasing cars for level 15 officers to make them feel the drive and to encourage others”.
Mr. Uriesi remarked that having commissioned guest house, conference hall and car park, there is need to improve the status of staff quarters in keeping with the staff incentive drive of his leadership.
Earlier, the Regional General manager, Mrs Ebele Okoye, said the mantle of leadership of the Port Harcourt Airport fell on her on October 2012, and she decided to confront the challenge frontally with focus determination to make a difference.
Mrs Okoye explained that she keyed into President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda of using the Aviation industry as one of the yardsticks to measure his administration’s achievements.
She disclosed that the greatest challenge on assumption of duty was the issue of movement out of the Terminal Building to give room for the contractor to work without hindrance.
The Regional General manager highlighted some of her achievements which include repair of fire link road pavements, re-roofing of administrative block, repair of administrative building, remodeling of conference room, construction of protocol car park, provision and installation of emergency escape stair for the control Tower among others.
Mrs Okoye thanked the Aviation Minister for her uncommon zeal to give unprecedented facelift to the country’s airport facilities and the Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) leadership hinged on three- prong approach of remodeling, restructuring, profitability and sustainability.
