Enugu To Equip Fire Service

The Enugu State Gov
ernment said on Tuesday that it had commenced plans to purchase state-of-the-art equipment and recruit personnel for fire disaster operations.
Gov. Sullivan Chime who  made the disclosure at workshop organised for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Enugu, said that plan involved the purchase fire-proof dresses for men of the state fire service.
Represented by Dr Eric Oluedo, the Commissioner for Rural Development, Chime said the workshop was aimed at sensitising civil servants on the rudiments of fire fighting, especially in their homes.
He noted that 40 people would also be recruited into the service as part of the efforts to beef up its operations.
“We have concluded plans to provide the state fire service with state-of-the-art equipment for rescue operations in the event of any disaster or mishap,’’ he said.
The governor called on citizens of the state to complement governments’ efforts in fighting fire incidents in the state.
The Enugu State Chief Fire Officer, Mr Cosmas Onodugo, commended the government for efforts toward ensuring adequate fire fighting in the state.
The highlight of the event was demonstration of different fire fighting methods by men of the service.
