With the timely warn
ings from meteorological and other such bodies of the inevitability of flooding in 2013, a former Economic Adviser to the Rivers State government Mr. Isaac Okemini has called on livestock farmers to take proactive steps to save their stock.
Okenini who spoke to our correspondent over the weekend on the need of such actions by farmers said the water level should be noted by the livestock farmers.
He said “normally you look at the water level and probably build an embarkment” that should be higher than the water level.
He further explained that the process of making embarkments with the use of sand bags or polythene bags was cost effective especially for small scale farmers.
“You fill them up with sand and pile up.
“It is cheaper for small scale farmers and it is simple and cost effective” he said.
According to him, another atternative was for such farmers to relocate to higher ground.
