Commissioner Intervenes As NSCDC, Task Force Clash
Some men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Ebonyi Environmental Task Force clashed on Saturday in Abakaliki.
The clash started when members of the task force intercepted the NSCDC vehicle for plying along the Abakaliki-Enugu express road during the exercise. This made both vehicles to collide while the officials involved engaged in a fight.
The quick intervention of the Commissioner for Environment, Chief Paul Okorie, and the General Manager of the Ebonyi State Environmental Protection Agency (EBSEPA), Mr Chukwuemeka Okeh prevented the clash from escalating.
Okorie, in his reaction, condemned the attitude of security personnel who wander along the streets during the monthly environmental sanitation.
“Law keepers should not be law breakers, as security officials should stop violating environmental regulations but set good example for others. “Those who flout this order do not appear in their official uniforms most times, making it difficult for environmental officials to identify them,’’ he said.
The commissioner, however, ordered the release of NSCDC officers and the task force’s vehicle impounded by the FRSC.
