… Bemoans Delay In Airport Remodelling Project

The Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN),Mr. George Uriesi, has expressed unhappiness over the delay experienced in the remodelling exercise going on at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
Mr. Uriesi stated this recently when he visited the airport to commission some projects initiated by the management of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
The Managing Director who noted with dismay the delay in the completion of the phase 1 of the remodelling project,  wondered when the exercise would be completed, stressing that remodelling projects in some airports are either completed or nearing completion.
He, however, promised that on completion of the remodelling exercise, the airports in the country would be modernized and warned staff that the new modern airports would not accommodate those that may not fall inline to the status of world class.
Mr. Uriesi said the airports had remained in bad shape for years, promising that the current effort will reposition it and warned that workers who are refusing to change would be sacked.
He assured that FAAN, under his leadership shall continue to motivate the workforce to enable them have a sense of belonging and unfolded some packages for workers to stimulate their zeal to serve people.
The FAAN boss, explained that before now, the Port Harcourt International Airport was the worst airport but expressed satisfaction that by the time the work is completed, it would become the most beautiful airport in the country.
The Managing Director acknowledged the inconveniences the airport users are going through and urged them to bear with the authority as the situation is a temporary one.
The Tide learnt that the delay experienced in the Port Harcourt airport was caused by the contractor who underestimated the scope and cost of the project leading to difficulties in funds to speedily carry out the project.
The Tide also gathered that the variation request from the contractor are yet to receive the desired attention leading to the slow pace of work.
Meanwhile, Port Harcourt Airport users are complaining about the inconveniences passengers go through and called on the management of FAAN to ensure that the project was completed soon considering the strategic importance of the airport to the nation.
