…As Members Re-affirm Loyalty To Dan-Amachree, Governor Amaechi
Twenty six, out of the 32 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have debunked claims of alleged impeachment of the Speaker, Rt Hon Otelemaba Dan Amachree by five members of the House.
In a statement signed by all 26 members, yesterday, they said “the attention of the undersigned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have been drawn to the alleged and widely publicized “Impeachment” of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelema Daniel Amachree by five sponsored and disgruntled members of the Assembly.
“We state for the benefit of the public that no such situation existed on the floor of the House on the 9th of July, 2013,” they said.
“These are mere machinations of the five members desperate to do their masters bidding.
“The purported claim by a member of the Assembly, Hon. Evans Bapakaye Bipi to be the new speaker of the state Assembly is out-rightly false and hallucinations of the most debased form. We urge members of the public and the press to disregard such claims.”
The lawmakers drew the public that “the matters are currently before the courts in the Rivers State judiciary,” and declare that “we are 100 per cent behind our Speaker, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Dan Amachree even as we are fully in support of our Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
“We condemn the desperation of the Abuja-based politicians to scuttle democracy in Rivers State. We call on the Inspector-General Police to ensure the safety of lives and property in Rivers State.
“We urge Rivers people to remain calm and peaceful. Truth, justice and the will of the people will always triumph. Light will always triumph over darkness.”
