Amaechi Opens Civil Service Week, Today
As the Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi declares open the the 2013 civil service week, today, the Rivers State Head of Service, Barrister Samuel LongJohn has urged civil servants in the state to rededicate themselves to the service.
Barrsiter LongJohn, who said this at a thanksgiving service at the St Cyprian Church, Hospital Road, Port Harcourt also commended the Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amachi for the cancellation of the tenure policy for permanent secretaries and directors in the service.
He said that it was the tradition of the state civil service to begin the celebration from the House of God to give thanks for his grace and protection and to seek guidance and direction in the activities lined up for the week as well as offer prayers for wisdom and strength to enable the public service effectively implement the policies and programmes of government.
He emphasized that the theme for the celebration, which is “the public service and open governance: giving voice to the people”, was designed to act as stimulus to improve service delivery.
Other events linedup for the celebration include, a symposium and the launching of a handbook on the codified circulars in use in the civil service right from the creation of the state.
In his sermon entitted, Samaritan Love,” Barrister T.T Miniayo, urged Christians and non-Christians to love one another.
Barrister Minaiyo, who described love as a magnate, said that it acts to attract unbelievers to Christ.
He argued that the concept of the Samaritan love was inline with the Bible which encoruges all to love one another.
The Head of Service and his entourage later visited the home for the elderly at Harbour Road, Port Harcourt, where food items and others were presented to the home.
