Special Adviser to Governor Chibuike Amaechi on Revenue Generation, Chief Nwankwo O. Nwankwo has condemned comments by Ambassador of Nigeria to South Korea, Engr Desomd Akawor in a national television over the Rivers State governor.
Chief Nwankwo said Akawor’s comment on Amaechi showed ungratefulness, noting that the ambassador has done nothing for the people of Oyigbo as compared to the governor.
Speaking to reporters at the weekend, the Special Aide to the governor on revenue generation said Governor Amaechi has embarked on people oriented projects which include schools, roads and hospitals unlike before.
According to Nwankwo, the South Korea Ambassador has not been able to impact on the lives of Oyigbo people, particularly Egberu community where he hails from.
The Special Adviser advised the Ambassador to separate politics from real issues, noting that uncomplimentary remarks targeted at a performing governor as Amaechi, especially on the level of developmental projects across the state , were unfortunate.
In the word of Nwankwo, “ let Akawor show the people of Rivers State, and indeed, Oyigbo, any project he has attracted to the area ever since he has been in government as a commissioner for water resources and now a two-term ambassador to South Korea”.
Nwankwo said Akawor should be grateful to Amaechi for the scholarship and development projects extended to the good people of Oyigbo.
The governor’s aide, however, apologized to the people of Rivers State over comments made by Akawor, noting that “I am ashamed that my younger brother, Ambassador Akawor, can stoop so low in joining the band wagon of opposition politicians to criticise governor of Rivers State.
Nwankwo also apologized to the governor, “your Excellency, let me apologize on behalf of my younger brother, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, who has made comments without caution  to you”
He stressed that the era of baseless criticism targeted at the governor has long been over, and urged Akawor to bring ideas that will help in developing the state.
