The Abia Director of Sports, Ejikeme Ikwunze,  has said that the state’s ongoing talent-hunt programme was aimed at discovering athletes, especially wrestlers, for the next National Sports Festival.
The 19th edition of the festival, tagged “Paradise Games, 2014” will be hosted in Calabar, the Cross River capital.
Ikwunze told  newsmen that wrestling contests were being held across the local government areas in the state and that wrestlers discovered would be camped for the bi-ennial Games.
“What we are doing at the moment is that we are embarking on a talent-hunt programme in wrestling, to help to discover wrestlers for the festival.
“We want to ensure that we discover the best wrestlers. By the time we have discovered them, we will camp them and prepare them effectively for the festival,” he said.
The director noted that plans were ongoing to organise training for all the elite wrestlers in the various weight categories, to help to enhance their careers.
Ikwunze added that it was also a measure to prepare the wrestlers for the national championship holding in the second quarter of the year.
