White House Leads At Special School Inter-House Meet

The White House emerged overall winners of the inter-house sports competition of Special School, UBE section in Port Harcourt with 160 points.

Yellow House came second, with 142 points while Green House and Red House scored 134 points and 92 points to come third and fourth, respectively.

Speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi commended the school authority for the event arrived at given the handicapped children a since of belonging, and urged them to continue to encourage the spirit of good sportsmanship.

The commissioner who was represented by a Director in the ministry, Mr Lawrence Obomanu, promised to deliver the requests of the school to the appropriate authorities for prompt action and also expressed satisfaction over the performances of the students, urging them to keep up the spirit in future events.

Earlier, the principal of the school, Mr Blessing Onwuegbuchu called on the state government to provide adequate sporting facilities and equipment for the school, pointing out that lack of teachers, accommodation, classrooms, side bay, library, laboratory, speech therapy clinic and school buses are some of the challenges facing the school.

She said that the Inter-House Sports was aimed at discovering talents in the institution which according to him abounds in the school, and also to give the children all round education for the development of their cognitive, effective and psychomotor domains.”

The principal lauded the state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Aamechi, the Federal Government and the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Bard (RSUBEB) for providing instructional materials and renovation of some buildings in the school through the Federal Government and UBE Intervention Fund.
