Rivers Investigates Death Of Family Of Six In Mystery Fire Incident

The Rivers State Government has promised to investigate the circumstances sorrounding the roasting to death of six members of the same  household by fire at 17 New Estate Road, Railway Quarters, Port Harcourt.

Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Dickson Umunakwe, who reacted on the incident in a telephone  interview with The Tide said that the government was deeply touched by the incident, stressing that something urgently will be done to unravel the circumstance surrounding the incident.

The commissioner, who spoke through the Ministry’s media offcier, Mrs Martha Igbiks also warned resident of the state against careless handling of inflamable materials.

Meanwhile, resident of the area have called on the government for help following the incident which killed six members of the same family.The Tide learnt that the victims, two girls, two boys and their parents who hailed from Anambar State, were asleep when the incident occured.

Although the cause of the fire incident was yet to be determined as at the time of going to press, residents told The Tide that there was an explosion within the area around 2.am Saturday.

The landlord of the estate who spoke under condition of anormymity told newsmen that before they could rush out after hearing the explosion, the entire building had been engulfed in fire.

The landlord who described the incident as heart-bleeding, noted that he wished that the entire compound was  burnt down rather than lose souls.

Meanwhile, the remains of the victims have been taken to Anambra State for burial.

When contracted, the state police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Angela Agabe confirmed the incident.
