The Oyo State Police Command last Tuesday said that it had arrested nine suspects in connection with the killing of Mr Rafiu Adebayo, a transport union official.
Our correspondent reports that Adebayo was the Agbeni branch chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Adebayo, a.k.a Ola Ruffy, was allegedly killed at Apaana, Foko area, Ibadan, near his house, on June 16.
His killing marked a break from the relative peace that reigned in the state capital in the last two years.
The Police spokesperson, DSP Bisi Clet-Ilobanefor, said the detectives swung into action immediately the incident was reported.
“Apart from these nine suspects, the mastermind of the killing, Moshood Oladokun, is still on the run.
“Our advice to him is that he should turn himself in now, because he can only hide, he cannot run. We will fish him out soon if he refuses to show up,” she said.
It would be  recalled that Adebayo was attacked by some hoodlums after returning from Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (former Liberty Stadium) where he had gone to watch a ram competition. His corpse was deposited at the Oke-Ado Hospital, Ibadan.
