PHALGA Inaugurates Caretaker Committee For Mile 1 Market
The Port Harcourt City Local Government Council has inaugurated a Caretaker Committee for the Mile I Market Traders Association.
The inauguration follows the dissolution of the former executive of the association led by Chief Young O.C. Georgewill.
Inaugurating the committee in his office, the Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Hon Chimbiko Iche Akarolo urged the committee to unite all factions of the market with the view to achieving peace in the market. Hon Akarolo who was represented by his Deputy, Miss Nancy Stephens also urged the committee to learn from the mistakes of its predecessors, noting that the council will not hesitate to dissolve them if they are found wanting in the course of their duties.
He said that the council is very much concerned about the affairs of the markets and to avoid a breakdown of law and order in the area.
The Mayor also charged them to include the women in its activities, while the Secretary of the Council, Mr Theophilus Akogbo said that the council decided to intervene to save the market from destruction.
Mr Akogbo also urged the caretaker committee to take its assignment very seriously.
Speaking after the inauguration the chairman of the committee, Mr Precious Nwiganole thanked the Mayor for the recognition accorded them and promised that the committee will not disappoint the council.
The committee has only one month to stay in office.
