Creditable performance by elected political office holders would not only justify their choice but would also go a long way to rekindle the confidence of Nigerians in the electoral system.
A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Omuma Local Government Area, Hon Emma Ozoemenem stated this yesterday at Eberi during the opening of the ongoing Senator George Sekibo Free Medical Outreach for the people of Omuma Local Government Area.
The party stalwart said Sen. George Sekibo, representing Rivers East Senatorial District has through his performance on the floor of the Senate chamber and enviable execution of constituency projects justified the mandate of the people, noting that the ongoing free medical programme is a wonderful concept that directly touches on the needs of the ordinary people of his constituency.
Noting that health is wealth, Hon Ozoemenem observed that Sen Sekibo has been consistent in executing the free medical programme across the eight local government areas making up the Senatorial district and lauded the people for embracing the programme.
“It is obvious that the senator has the well-being of the people in his district particularly their health at heart,” he said, and urged other elected office holders to emulate him and undertake programmes that have direct bearing on the well-being of their people.
He commended the people of Omuma who defied the heavy downpour to benefit from the programme, stating that they justified the purpose of the outreach and showed that they will always support a worthy cause in the interest of the generality of the rural dwellers.
Programme  manager of Key of Life Foundation, partners of the programme, Mr Samuel Dunkan said over 300 persons have so far benefited from the scheme which began on Monday, adding that apart from treating the sick, they also gave counsel on health issues.
Co-ordinator of the Senator George Thompson Sekibo Free Medical Outreach, Hon Kevin Agbam said the programme has been taken to six local government areas, stating that the train would proceed to Obio/Akpor Local Government Area from Omuma and terminate at Port Harcourt Local Government.
