NTF Initiates Athletes’ Insurance Scheme
The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), has announced an insurance scheme, tagged: National Membership and Insurance Licence (NMIL), to ensure that all national athletes were well catered for during and after retirement.
NTF President, George Ashiru, told newsmen in Lagos that the scheme would also accommodate all coaches, instructors, as well as referees.
According to Ashiru, the scheme will provide athletes with an annually renewable insurance policy cover for athletes, coaches and referees – while still serving and after retirement.
“The scheme was introduced globally a few years ago by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).
“At the national level, we have added the compulsory insurance due to the imperative of protection against injuries and related medical emergencies in the course of partaking in national events.
“It gives the NTF, the players and their families the peace of mind that they have taken steps to protect their own welfare. It will be renewable annually,” Ashiru said.
He listed the benefits of the scheme as keeping an official data of all active players, instructors and referees, as well as providing professional development for each category of members.
Speaking on repositioning the federation, the president assured that qualified individuals would be engaged to take charge of each department with the aim to attract corporate bodies and individuals.
According to him, each department will be corporately restructured to assist the executive board in running the federation for the next four years.
The departments, he said were the executive board, the presidency, secretariat, secretary general, technical, coaching and referees’ directorate, games, international, collegiate, research and development, media, women and youth development.
The rest, he said, included marketing and finance, while the ad hoc departments were protocol and welfare.
