Nigeria’s No. 1 Tasks NTF On Competitions
Current national number one player Abdulmumuni Babalola, has said that his expectation from the new board of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), was to correct the abnormalities of its predecessors.
Babalola told newsmen in Lagos that the new board members should focus more on a sponsorship drive for more competitions for senior and junior players.
“It is a known fact that the last administration did what it could in terms of attracting sponsors for competitions; the new board should try to surpass that.
“The federation needs regular competitions in the junior and senior categories. So, I honestly hope that the members’ strategy will bring in better results than what we have witnessed.
“I believe that the board will do more towards ensuring that tennis witnesses an appreciable level of growth in the next four years and also to correct the errors of the previous board,” Babalola said.
He also urged the board to take the sport to the grassroots, secondary and primary schools, to discover raw talents to aid its development.
“I want students to take interest in tennis, to enable us discover young talents to replace the ageing ones,“ he added.
Babalola said he believed that if the board wanted a change, there will be one, adding he was certain that developmental programmes would be put in place before the next four years run out.
